What are cookies?
Cookies are simple text files that are stored on your computer or mobile device by a website's server. Each cookie is unique to your web browser. It will contain some anonymous information such as a unique identifier, website's domain name, and some digits and numbers.
What is Personally Identifiable Information?
Personally Identifiable Information (PII) is any information connected to a specific individual that can be used to uncover that person's identity. The EU's GDPR prohibits the storage of PII unless permission has been granted by the user. It also prohibits the transfer of a user's IP address to third party sites without permission. ACCU asks permission to set cookies that may contain PII, and also asks permission to send IP addresses to third party sites, in order to provide an enhanced user experience.
What types of cookies do we use?
Necessary cookies allow us to offer you the best possible experience when accessing and navigating through our website and using its features. For example, these cookies let us recognize that you have created an account and have logged into that account to access our content. These cookies may be set by third-party websites. Third-party sites utilized by ACCU include Youtube, InfoQ, Skillsmatter, and OpenLibrary. These sites are used only when you give permission to share your IP address and accept the cookies that these sites may set.
Most of the cookies set by the ACCU website are session cookies that expire when the browser is closed. There are two cookies (OAID, session) that are set with an expiration date.
ACCU recommends you set your browser to delete all cookies whenever you close your browser, which will delete both session and explicit-expiration cookies.

Alternatively, you can visit www.internetcookies.org, which contains comprehensive information on how to do this on a wide variety of browsers and devices.
